You’ve just had a fairytale wedding, the one that you’ve always dreamt of since forever. But when you open the presents the next day, it turns out to be a nightmare. One friend who recently got married said she’d received so many kitchen appliances and crockery sets, she could set up a restaurant. Another said the gifts were really of no use so he would just keep them somewhere but had no clue how and where to accommodate them.
On the other hand, as guests, we spend days deciding the gift, make WhatsApp groups and end up buying something we think the couple would like.
Have you experienced this? I have! Not once or twice but multiple times, as a guest. But then recently, I had the opportunity of coming across Wedding Wishlist, an Indian wedding gift registry website which changed my perception of gifting completely.
Hold on! What’s a gift registry?
Gift registry, a popular concept in the west, is a service that assists couples in the communication of gift preferences to wedding guests. Couples can select gifts they want as wedding presents and then send a message to their close friends and family to let them know of their preferences.
About Wedding Wishlist
Wedding Wishlist, launched in February 2016, is the brainchild of Kanika Subbiah who believes in practical over bizarre when it comes to gifting. A simple conversation with a friend who had received duplicate gifts at her wedding got Kanika thinking. She could totally empathise with her friend and that’s when she decided to come up with a cool way to help couples take control over their own wedding gifts as well as help guests select a gift that’s memorable to the bride and groom.
It’s simple, hassle-free and beneficial to the interests of both parties.
How does it work?
For the couple
The process is very simple. All you’ve got to do is create, share and receive.
- Create – Sign into Wedding Wishlist and create your login ID and password. The website offers a number of gifts to choose from. Select the gifts you want from the wide range of options that the website offers and add them to your wishlist.
- Share – You will receive a unique URL, which you can share with close friends via email or social networking sites so that they can buy the gifts for you.
- Receive – Wedding Wishlist will keep a track of your gift givers, gifts and contributions so you can focus on your wedding.
In addition, you can personalize your wishlist page by adding you own cover page and profile picture. Also, you can tweak the URL of your page as per your wish. Once a guest purchases a gift from the wishlist, it gets deleted so that other guests don’t buy the same gift.
For the Guests
Once you receive the URL from the couple, you can purchase the gift from their wishlist just like you purchase from any online shopping site. Even if the couple is not registered on Wedding Wishlist, you may use the website like a normal shopping site to purchase gifts as a guest.
