The Fashion icons of Indian politics

March 31

The traditional white dhoti kurta attire of Indian politicians is a passe. These days Indian politicians are making style statements. With the younger lot coming in, the trend is changing. However, there are few who have actually made us stand and take notice. Lets see who are the fashion icons of Indian politics.

1.) Omar Abdullah

fashion icons of Indian politics

An excellent combination of good looks, power and style, Omar Abdullah has it all. He carries himself with such ease, whether its traditional wear, suit or casual wear. We like him best in pathani, with the topi. Young and smart, with western looks, we love how he experiments with his look and does not fit the bill of a stereotype politician. Omar definitely tops the list.

2.) Sachin Pilot

fashion icons of Indian politics

Online fashion store had performed a survey last year on the most stylish and exuberant politician. We were not surprised when Sachin Pilot was declared the winner. Son of the deceased Congress leader Rajesh Pilot, Sachin is known for his good looks and stylish clothing. The cherry on the cake is the million dollar smile. We have also time and again seen him with a red bandhini turban hinting his Rajasthani background.

3.) Narendra Modi

fashion icons of Indian politics

Move aside Vladimir Putin, Barack Obama, the world has a new fashion icon.  The Man of the hour, Mr. Modi has taken political dressing to a different level all together. We hear Jade Blue used to be his designer earlier. He is the perfect example of how traditional wear can be totally classy. Whether its cotton or silk kurtas, the waistcoats or the suits, Modi shows how its worn best.

4.) Navjot Singh Sidhu

fashion icons of Indian politics

Former cricketer, member of parliament,  comedy show host and cricket commentator, he is our stylish and smart sardar. He even made it to Big Boss in one of the seasons. Known for his wit and shayaris, Sidhu easily makes it to this list. Also, we hear his daughter is studying fashion. After all she has fashion in her genes.

5.) Shashi Tharoor

fashion icons of Indian politics

Embroiled in controversies, the ex minister of external affairs and HRD, has a flair for style. His flair for writing adds to his persona. The coats, the kurtas and waitcoats, mostly black or blue..Oh, why don’t we have too many like you ? This London born gentlemen has definitely won our hearts.

6.) Jyotiraditya Scindia

fashion icons of Indian politics

Scindia is one of the wealthiest politicians in India. The MP is mostly dressed in kurtas and pyjamas. Black and white seem to be his favourite colours and he can be often seen wearing glares. Plus those shoes polished to the T. We like.

7.) Rahul Gandhi

fashion icons of Indian politics

Having the Gandhi surname is itself an honour. Rahul does live up to it when it comes to fashion though. We love his style and his dimpled smile. We have seen him mostly in white pyjamas and kurtas. We would love if he would ditch them more often for waistcoats and suits. With his handsome looks he definitely is a part of this list.

8.) Milind Deora

fashion icons of Indian politics

The young MP from Mumbai, Milind has a simple yet classy style. Abhishek Bachchan had, in one of his interviews, said that Milind Deora and Sachin Pilot were the inspiration behind his look in the movie Paa.

9.) Chiranjeevi

fashion icons of Indian politics

Ex actor and producer, style and fashion come to him with ease. The south star is often seen in white shirts and his trademark moustache and shades.

10.) Anurag Thakur

Finally on this list is the MP from BJP. Suits, waistcoats and jackets are his likes. His trademark beard adds to his looks. Son of Prem Kumar Dhumal, former CM of Himachal Pradesh, he is also secretary of BCCI. We think he looks good in Nehru jackets and formal suits.
