Significance of the Red Dot Design museum

Red Dot Design museum is the first contemporary design museum in Singapore and Asia and it first opened its doors in November 2005. The museum presents the latest trends in the international design scene with a collection of more than 1,000 award-winning works from all over the world.

Every product, communication design and concept on display is tested, discussed and evaluated by a panel of international experts in one of the world’s largest and most renowned design competitions – the Red Dot Design award. Only the best of all entries receive the coveted Red Dot quality seal and therefore their deserved place at museum.

Magnitude and Importance of the Red Dot Design Award

The award is hosted annually by the Design Centrum Nordrhein Westfalen, Germany. Altogether, there are 17 categories within  the award ranging from best posters, packaging design, illustrations, typography, film and animations to game design. In 2014, a total of 7,096 projects from 49 countries was submitted for the award!

Where is it located ? The museum is located at walking distance from the Tanjong Pagar MRT in the central business district area of Singapore.

What’s more? You can also shop from the wide collection of design objects and unique gifts that are not found elsewhere in Singapore.

The museum also has an amazing coffee shop called ‘Pacific Coffee company’ which is recommended for all coffee lovers.
