Food Fantasies

Swiss Rostis at Marche Singapore

February 8

Have you heard of the concept of market fresh meal ? Marche or marketplace, as is the literal translation in French, is a restaurant outlet at Singapore that does exactly that. I visited the Vivocity outlet of Marche, located on Level 3 terrace of Vivocity. These cute green cows are placed outside the restaurant with the tagline ‘Fresh – Healthy – Fast’ mentioned on them (awww). Let me warn you, if you enter this place between 12 pm to 1 pm or in the evening between 7-9 pm, you will almost always find a queue. The numerous times I have gone, I have always had to wait.

Concept – I love the entire feel of marketplace. So basically, each person is handed over a card when they enter. There are various counters serving food and all you’ve got to do is place your order at the counter and swipe the card that you have been handed over and enjoy your meal. When you exit, just hand over the card at the exit and pay against whatever is swiped in the card.

What’s good ? The Rosti is a favourite at Marche. Rosti is basically a swiss dish consisting of potatoes (yes it is fattening!) and was originally served as breakfast. It is so famous in Switzerland that it may easily be called the national dish. So, Marche serves the original rosti, which is a plain rosti served with fresh cream and costs approx 8 SGD. You can add-on sausage, ham, mushroom, chicken or beef and each add-on costs around 5 SGD to 10 SGD additional cost. The crepes are lovely too. The banana, chocolate crepe is yummy. There is a chicken and seafood counter as well. The chicken cheese sausage and the marinated pork neck steak is also recommended. They also serve pizza, pastas and salads which are pretty average.

For beverages, the lemonade is good, but the fresh fruit juices are great. You can combine two fruit juices as well. Beverages cost around 7 SGD.

The ambiance is great, giving you the feel of being at a marketplace. There is a kids corner on one side so you can enjoy your meal while the kids play. The place is spacious so you don’t really have to wait too long in a queue.

What’s not ? Salad portions are small. The place could be a bit pricey for travellers on a budget.

Price wise ?  A meal for two with beverages can cost around 40 SGD.

This place is definitely a popular joint at Singapore and is a must visit for all travellers. Payment system is a no hassle. The quality and selection of food is great and it is an ideal place to visit with friends of family. It’s fresh, delicious and highly recommended, especially for brunch.
